This project’s script was written as my thesis project for my M.F.A. in Photo, Video, and Related Media program at the School of VISUAL ARTS. While writing the script, I have been shooting and editing visual references, I have include a part of that series with the script, which was developed in conjunction with them. This video was screened at the SVA Thesis show in July 2013. After the screening, I was encouraged to continue this video. American film critic, Amy Taubin, a member of the selection committee for the New York Film Festival, said this video is “an exceptionally beautiful short film that testifies her subtle use of video imagery to evoke a sense of place.”
It tells the story of Philip Kojima and Gahee Meyer, who live together in Berlin. Philip is the child of a Japanese father and European-Jewish mother, and Gahee, whose parents are Korean, was adopted by a German family. The film, which is represented by a short reference video, questions the relevance of national history in contemporary life.
